  • 6 slices Sourdough Bread ¾ inch thick, slightly stale
  • 4 large Eggs
  • 1 cup Milk or dairy-free alternative
  • 2 tablespoons Granulated Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
  • 0.5 teaspoon Ground Cinnamon
  • 0.25 teaspoon Ground Nutmeg
  • 2 tablespoons Unsalted Butter for cooking

Optional Toppings

  • Maple Syrup to taste
  • Fresh Berries to taste
  • Powdered Sugar to taste

Instructions
 

  • In a shallow dish, whisk together the eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  • Heat a large skillet or griddle over medium heat. Add a tablespoon of butter.
  • Dip each slice of sourdough bread into the egg mixture, coating both sides.
  • Place the soaked sourdough slices onto the hot skillet. Cook for 2-3 minutes per side, until golden brown.
  • Add remaining butter to the skillet as needed and cook the remaining slices.
  • Serve immediately with your favorite toppings, such as maple syrup, fresh berries, and powdered sugar.

Notes

For best results, use slightly stale sourdough bread. Adjust sweetness to taste by adding more or less sugar. Experiment with different spices like cardamom or allspice.
